Nkwarungo Toilet Blocks

Nkwarungo Primary school is in one of four villages that make up a constituency named Foo Village. The village lies within the Machame District, which is encompassed by the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania.

Construction of a 6 pit block for the schools' 108 girls which eased the pressure on the existing latrines as previously there were only 14 for the entire school of 226. A newly constructed toilet block for girls standard 1-7 has been completed in July 07. In addition during January 08 is the construction of a toilet block for the 118 boys attending standards 1 through 7.

This will allow the existing boys block which is far past its use by date to be sealed off.The block will consist of 8 long drop toilets and will thus having a ratio of 1 pit to 14.75 children, this will also allow for pupil increases as the government health and safety standard is set at 1 pit to 20 children hence this block having a potential to serve 160 children.
