Chosica Community Centre

This project focused on the completion of a community centre for the villagers, which will be a multi-purpose building serving for community meetings, gatherings and social events, and also a place for the women to weave their rugs, blankets, bags and belts during the rainy season. These women were forced to stop weaving during the rainy season as they have nowhere to do so in a group, or they must continue to do so in their small, often one-room, homes, where cooking, guinea pig-rearing and child-care all take place in the same space. This means that they cannot spread out their wool to weave, or if they do it becomes filthy and the goods are then unfit for selling to foreign tourists. As a result, the village income dramatically decreases during this time as they are unable to produce enough goods to sell and make a profit in the local artisan market in Chinchero.

This project was completed in 3 phases.
