Update from MAD HQ: Tsrukpe Tota School Build and a Public Toilet Block

The aim of the project is to complete the construction of a primary school block in the village, which, due to a lack of funding, was left incomplete several years ago. The foundations of the building and bottom row of bricks have already been laid. Our work will include brick laying, plumbing, plastering, carpentry and painting.

When complete this block will replace the current primary school located on the village playing field which consists of a basic shelter with no walls and a simple corrugated iron roof, meaning school has to be abandoned when there are heavy rains. T

he aim of our second project is to build a communal toilet block for the people of Tsrukpe. There are only a few people in a village of over 1000 inhabitants lucky enough to have their own toilet facilities, the remaining villagers have to use land which has been set aside as a communal toilet area.

This lack of adequate sanitation facilities can lead to serious health problems, and much sickness and diarrhoea. A lack of privacy is also an issue, particularly for women and village elders. The project will provide the village with 2 KVIP toilet blocks containing a total of 8 toilets - 4 female, 4 male. KVIP's are recommended as the standard toilet in Ghana, by the government. They are long drop style with waste collected at the bottom and taken away when filled.
