Update from MAD HQ: Hlefi Todome Public Toilet Block
The aim of the building project is to complete the construction of a 12 seater KVIP toilet block. KVIP's are recommended as the standard toilet in Ghana, by the government. They are long drop style with waste collected at the bottom and taken away when filled. The pits for the toilets have already been dug, blocks laid and the latrines plastered.
The superstructure remains to be built and this will be the focus of our five week project. The 400 people of the Todome clan in Hlefi will all benefit from the completion of these sanitation facilities as only 2 houses in the clan currently have toilets and the remaining community must use communal pit latrines. These latrines are unhygienic, undignified and once full are filled in and new ones dug.
The KVIP toilets will provide privacy, a higher standard of hygiene, and, once filled can be emptied and reused.
