Hey guys!
I bet no one goes on this and I will look very lonely but here we go!
So I have been here a week and it is has been one of the best weeks of my life (no exaggeration). I have been working at Sokode R.C school (they are creationalists which is very very scary to teach!), I'm in class four, and the ages range from 9 to 11. It's a fantastic place to work and all the children are so keen to learn. They still use the cane in school as punishment which is something you never get used to seeing espicially when they are hitting five year olds for spelling their name wrong! They have just finished sitting their exams, so for the next few days we are just going to be playing games and doing arty things...thankfully that means no more marking papers for me (really tested my non existent maths skills there!).
We work at the orphanage in the afternoon after school finishes at 2, this is more like baby sitting for about twenty/thirty children. It is alot of fun, a lot of drawing, alot of singing and reading and playing with skipping ropes!
This weekend we went to the highest waterfalls in ghana and we went swimming in them , we also reenacted herbal essences adverts much to the amusement of the locals...
We walked through genuine jungle to get there and we saw pineapples growing (they grow from the ground not trees?!) and cocoa and bananas! The butterflies here are the size of your palms they just fly right into your face...quite scary the first time it happens!
We then watched a football match on the sunday, we saw the english lot get beaten to shreds by the ghanians, although we definatly cheered loudest!
Everyone here in the house is fantastic and I couldn't be happier at the moment. It is a truley amazing and welcoming place! Shame the toilets only flush three times a day or I'd stay forever! hahaha!
I am going to Cape Coast this coming weekend, I am sure I will write a blog once I have been. Leave messages for me!
Missing you all
Lots of Love
Abi
